On display at The Wolfsonian from September 21, 2023 through June 2, 2024, The Big World: Alternative Landscapes in the Modern Era challenges conventional notions of landscape art with an exploration of land depictions within the museum's collection. The exhibit ventures beyond idyllic scenes by presenting the modern era's evolving vistas captured in paintings, the decorative arts, and even a grand piano. Covering the period from the late 1800s to the first half of the 1900s, The Big World delves into the effects of global growth and shifting perspectives of the world around us, from pristine nature to its radical transformation in contemporary urban and industrial centers along with panoramas scarred by warfare and environmental disregard.
