EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
Meet Shawn-Ta Wilson, a Senior Convention Services Manager at the Tampa Convention Center. She has worked for the City of Tampa for 29 years and loves that her position allows her to meet people from all walks of life. She believes that building long-lasting client relationships has been a blessing because even though they may no longer work in the industry, or hold an event at TCC, she still keeps in touch with several past clients.
What do you like to do in your free time? Spending time with my family is my go-to. We have one life and one shot and making memories with, and for, the people we love. Also, writing (books and articles) is an outlet which I enjoy very much.
What bucket list item do you want to check off next? There are so many things in the United States I’d love to see: Grand Canyon, Northern Lights, Niagara Falls, etc. Of them all, my greatest desire is to see the Northern Lights. Next to water, the sky fascinates me.
What is your favorite meal to cook and why? Sunday dinner, if I’m not working, is my favorite to cook. I go for comfort food – mac and cheese, greens, fried chicken. I can’t do that every week because I do also balance healthy eating with comfort meals. But there’s just something soul-warming about a good, homecooked Sunday dinner.
What's one of the craziest days you’ve had on job? We often say we could write a book about all we have seen and experienced here at TCC. Since I’m an author also, I just may do that one day! But, to answer your question, it would have to be the cougar. An exhibitor once had an actual cougar in their booth that we were unaware of. I stumbled upon it while making rounds in the show. It jumped down from the display about 30’ from me. Needless to say, once the exhibitor corralled it, we had to have them remove it from the facility.
