Thanks to Tampa General Hospital, Catholic Charities, and The McNamara Foundation, our Tampa Hope homeless shelter (https://www.ccdosp.org/tampa-hope/) is home to a new “clinic-in-a-box” CareStation that allows residents to have real-time consultations with a licensed clinician. Using high-definition audio-video capabilities and a comprehensive suite of medical devices, it enables personalized, immediate medical care. Tampa Hope is the first homeless shelter in America to offer this on-site care for its nearly 235 residents, who also receive wrap-around support, including meals, clothing, transportation, mental & behavioral health support, and more.

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
Meet Frank Segui-Rodriguez, an AWT Instrumentation & Controls Specialist in the Water Department. He has worked for the City of Tampa for over twenty years and he most enjoys the comradery with his colleagues & the position’s daily challenges. He says, “This is a very broad field where we must come up with quick and new ideas to get things going. Here at the Water Treatment Plant, we all like these challenges.”

What is your dream vacation? My dream would be to visit three different countries every year and spend three weeks at each country. So, it would be one vacation every 3 months for the rest of my life. That would be a very nice dream to come true. Right now, I would like to visit Cape Town for my next vacation.

What is your favorite meal to cook? Grilled salmon and “flan de queso." Every year this is my contribution for the Thanksgiving dinner. It is incredibly easy to prepare, and everyone love it. Because everyone loves it, they do come for more. We always run out of salmon and flan. I can’t say the same about the turkey.

What’s your favorite holiday? My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving for a simple reason, we always get Thursday and Friday off. On these 4 days weekend, I have plenty of time to spend with my family and friends, and after that, still have time left to sit down and relax before Monday.

What’s something unique about your position that others wouldn’t know? The Instrumentation and Control Department keeps the water treatment plant’s automated systems running. When our programmable logic controller stops working, our water plant operators will notice it and they’ll remember how much they need us and like us.
SPECIAL FEATURE
Tampa Water Department residential customers who participated in irrigation evaluations last year saved an average of 5,000 gallons of water/month. Irrigation evaluations help customers get a better understanding of their water use, their irrigation system, and our water restrictions.
