Mayor Jane Castor was honored to help celebrate the USS Jack H. Lucas, as it was officially commissioned into active service for the United States Navy on Saturday. The 511-foot-long ship is the Navy's newest and most technologically advanced guided missile destroyer.

29th Annual Tampa Police Memorial Run

Mayor Jane Castor, Chief Lee Bercaw, and the Tampa Police Department invite the public to participate in the 29th Annual Tampa Police Memorial 5K/1-Mile Run-Walk (https://raceroster.com/events/2023/78350/2023-tampa-police-memorial-run-5k-and-1-mile-runwalk) on October 14. Run or walk the race, or just cheer on participants! Proceeds from the event benefit the Police Museum, Memorial Scholarship Program, charitable donations, and Tampa Police Memorial Monument maintenance.

Forest Hills Park Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Join Mayor Jane Castor, Tampa City Council, City staff, and local community members for the Forest Hills Park Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on October 17 at 4:30 pm as we celebrate the new multi-purpose field, courts, fitness trail, and nature preserve.

Florida Conversations: Tampa’s Soulwalk

On October 17 at 6:30pm, Fred Hearns, Tampa Bay History Center Curator of Black History, and Robin Nigh, Arts and Cultural Affairs Manager for the City of Tampa, will join a distinguished guest panel that designed the Soulwalk (https://www.tampa.gov/soulwalk) arts and heritage “trail.” Special guests include Nneka Jones, artist and creative director for Art You Hungry; Cheryl Rodriguez, Ph.D., with USF’s School of Interdisciplinary Global Studies; and Ida Walker, with the Tampa Police Department. Meet Jeremy James, a Utility Technician in the Water Department. He has worked for the City of Tampa for 8 years and he enjoys that in his position, he meets people from all walks of life. “You never know whose house you’ll go to, and who you’ll meet. So, I treat everybody the same and make sure I leave my job looking excellent, whether at the Mayor’s house or not. I want to make the face of the City look good.”

What's one of the craziest days you’ve had on the job? I had to report to an after-hours call where a drive-by occurred. I arrived to shut the water off due to a bullet striking a water supply line inside of the house.

What do you like to do in your free time? Bowling, cooking, & spending time with family.

What is your favorite meal to cook and why? My favorite meal is pan-seared/grilled salmon with asparagus and sweet potato. I like it because it’s a simple, healthy meal.

Where’s your favorite restaurant in Tampa? My favorite restaurant is Charley’s Steak House.
