Mayor Jane Castor and City Councilmen Luis Viera & Guido Maniscalco paid tribute to Purple Heart recipients on National Purple Heart Day, raising the Purple Heart flag above Old City Hall. The Purple Heart medal is presented to service members who have been wounded or killed because of enemy action while serving in the U.S. military.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Creamsicle Day
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are celebrating the return of the Creamsicle jerseys with Creamsicle Day (https://www.buccaneers.com/creamsicleday) ! Mayor Jane Castor presented a proclamation that declares today, August 14, as “Creamsicle Day” in the City of Tampa. The public is invited to join the daylong celebration of everything orange, starting with training camp practice in the morning and ending with a great fireworks display against the backdrop of an orange downtown skyline at Armature Works in the evening.

Budget In Action
On August 23 from 5:30 pm – 7 pm, join City staff at the Police Athletic League (1924 W Diana Street) to learn about the proposed FY24 budget. Budget in Action (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/budget-in-action-tickets-694917816897?aff=oddtdtcreator) is an interactive event that will allow residents to explore improvement plans, observe equipment, and take home resources.

HEATSAFE Alerts
The City of Tampa has launched a heat safety text alert system to keep our community informed and safe from the impacts of extreme heat. More than 500 opt-in subscribers were recorded within the first hour it was announced. To sign up, text HEATSAFE to 888-777.

Tampa City Council Budget Workshop
Tampa City Council will host a Special Call Budget Workshop (https://www.tampa.gov/city-council) on August 14 at 5:01 pm to review and discuss the Recommended Fiscal Year 2024 Budget and Capital Improvement Plan for the City of Tampa. The public and citizens of the City of Tampa will be able to watch, listen or view this meeting on Spectrum Channel 640, Frontier Channel 15, or online at tampa.gov/livestream (https://www.tampa.gov/livestream) .

Grant Park Neighborhood Hurricane Preparedness Outreach Event
Stop by the New Testament Worship Center (5107 E 32nd Ave) on August 17 from 6 pm to 8 pm to learn about an interactive program to train and prepare residents to respond to emergencies in their neighborhoods. Jackson Heights Apartments Engine Demo
Tampa Fire Rescue Station #10 engine will be present at the Jackson Heights Apartments on August 18 from 3 pm to 4 pm for a fire engine demonstration. Toyin Aina-Hargrett
Meet Toyin Aina-Hargrett, the Senior Assistant City Attorney II in the Legal Department. She has worked for the City of Tampa over 18 years, and enjoys that her position allows her to assist almost every department within the City. Her days spent in a trial are always exciting and different as they’re not entirely predictable.

What’s your favorite movie? It’s a tie between The Color Purple and Shawshank Redemption.

What is your favorite meal to cook and why? West Indian style oxtails with peas and rice. It’s just so satisfying to make and eat.

What reality show would you want to be on? Probably “The People’s Court,” as a judge.

What are five quick things you're grateful for? I am grateful for: Faith, family, friends, good health, and laughter.
