The Black Love Classic Movie Series is celebrating Black History Month 2025 with a new genre: Blerds. This year’s Black Love classics series, presented by Tampa Electric (TECO) in collaboration with the City of Tampa Community Engagement & Partnerships Department, reflects Tampa Theatre’s commitment to representation and the magic of the movies with “Rise of the Blerds” every Sunday in February. There are two screenings left. Tickets may be purchased at the box office and online at tampatheatre.org (https://www.tampatheatre.org/) .
* February 16: Nope. Guests are encouraged to stay after the film for a deep-dive discussion into Peele’s storytelling and directorial choices.
* February 23: Hidden Figures. Guests are encouraged to stay after the film for a panel discussion featuring local Black women who are making waves in STEM-based careers.

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
Ben Menges
Meet Ben Menges, Engineering Supervisor at the Tampa Convention Center. He has worked for the City of Tampa for 35 years. His favorite part of his role is operating and maintaining the largest City of Tampa-owned chilled water plant with a great team of skilled engineers.
What's one of the craziest days you’ve had on job? My craziest fun day was back in 1991 assisting with the very first docking of the Jose Gasparilla Pirate Ship onto the riverwalk. That was spectacular!! Most recently, the worst crazy day would be recovering from the back to back hurricanes.
What do you like to do in your free time? Spending time with family at my daughter's house in Anna Maria (aka A Pirate's Dream). I enjoy this time with all my family there!
Who's your favorite music artist? I have two, the first artist in my era is Led Zeppelin - my teenage years were in the late seventies, my second favorite is Rebelution, a more reggae style music.
Where’s your favorite restaurant in Tampa? My favorite restaurant is World of Beer! They have so many different taps to choose from and support local craft breweries.
What's your dream vacation? To live on a cruise ship and travel the world. No work, no schedules, no driving, no traffic....etc! Oh and the unlimited drink package!!
What are you reading or binging on Netflix right now? I just finished Dexter on Netflix.
