Pirates Raid City Hall

City Hall representatives have been notified that Gasparilla pirates are expected to invade City Hall (https://www.tampa.gov/news/2024-01/pirates-spotted-downtown-tampa-warn-impending-invasion-city-135291) tomorrow January 23 at 12 pm with their eyes squarely set on Mayor Jane Castor. Their intent: negotiate a peaceful surrender of the city or face a long and costly battle. PLEASE NOTE - NOISE ADVISORY: Theatrical sounds, such as cannons firing, may be heard in the area of downtown Tampa, and props appearing to be weapons may be observed in the downtown area during this time. There is no cause for concern. The Tampa Police Department is aware.

New Homeowner Water Conservation Workshop

New homeowners have plenty to worry about - your utility bill shouldn’t be one of them! Sign up for our “Welcome Home! Black Love Film Series at Tampa Theatre

The Black Love Film Series (https://tampatheatre.org/movie-categories/black-love/) is back! The series will feature five films, chosen in collaboration with the City of Tampa’s Community Engagement & Partnerships Department, that explore stories centered around the theme of “Faith, Food & Family” as told by Black filmmakers and diverse casts. Films will be screened on Sundays at 3 pm from January 23 – February 25. The series will be kicked off with a free community block party on January 28 from 1 – 3 pm outside the theatre before the show starts. On February 18, the screening of “This Is It! The Miracle of BBQ” will be free to the public to attend. Gasparilla Pirate Fest & Parade of Pirates

Rumors have circulated that the Captain of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla and a fierce battalion of pirates plan to invade downtown Tampa at the Tampa Convention Center on January 27 at approximately 11:30 am. Following the invasion, the parade of merry pirates will begin at 2 pm on Bayshore Boulevard. Meet Angela Kranjec, an Office Support Specialist IV in the Parks and Recreation Department. She has worked for the City of Tampa for 24 years and enjoys that her position involves helping working parents/guardians get their children into programs that are greatly needed.

What’s your favorite restaurant in Tampa? Black Rock, love grilling my own steak and it’s always delicious!

What’s your favorite movie? I have a few….The Notebook, Grease, & Chuck and Larry.

What’s your favorite holiday? Halloween. I love decorating my house and yard with my grandkids, and seeing all the kids in their unique costumes.

What is your dream vacation? Sicily. I’ve been there once. I loved it and still have relatives there.

We Honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

MLK Day honors the life & legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his efforts to promote equality & justice for all. Some may not know that he was assassinated while supporting a 1968 sanitation workers' strike. And each year, our Solid Waste team honors his legendary advocacy for the industry.

The project contracted $20 million to Black-owned businesses.
