Proposed Solid Waste Rate Adjustment Community Meeting Tonight

The City of Tampa Solid Waste Department invites you to participate in a community meeting tonight (May 6) at 6:30 pm at Jan Platt Library to discuss proposed rate adjustments. An adjustment to the solid waste rates will allow the department to maintain current levels of service, provide financial stability, and make the investments needed to ensure that the waste disposal and collection needs of Tampa’s residents and businesses are provided for now, and in the future. For more information, contact the City of Tampa Solid Waste Department at (813) 274-8811 or visit tampa.gov/solidwasterates (https://www.tampa.gov/solidwasterates) .

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

Zulema Rodriguez

Happy Building Safety Month! This May, we're highlighting our staff that ensure our city is built from safe and sustainable structures:

Meet Zulema Rodriguez, a Client Facilitator I in the Development & Growth Management Division. She has worked for the City of Tampa for over two years and enjoys that no day is the same in her position. She said, "What I love most about my position is that I can never be bored. While the process is consistent from project to project, the projects themselves are unique, as are the people involved. Some may be new to Tampa and require more guidance, others have constructed multiple projects in Tampa, and may require only periodic check-ins. Never a dull moment, and my plate is always full. But the support from my highly skilled coworkers and management is abundant, so, help is always a call, email, or Teams message away."

What's your favorite shop in Tampa? One of my favorite places is You Do the Dishes, a wonderful pottery place on Amberly Drive, where you choose from a variety of ceramic bisques (raw dried clay), and paint it, creating your very own masterpiece. After purchasing the bisque, the paint, paintbrushes, and stencils, if you need them, are all provided. I took my granddaughter there many times from when she was 8 years old until she was 15. They also have a coffee shop with pastries and hot and cold drinks, making this a great place to bond with family and friends of all ages.

What’s your favorite type of music? Salsa is my go-to music at home. Some of my favorite artists from the 90’s include Eddie Santiago, Marc Anthony, Tito Rojas, Tito Nieves, Frankie Ruiz, and La India, to name a few. There are many newer artists like, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee (Despacito) that I also enjoy. Other genres include doo-wop and dance music from the 70’s through 90’s. But I also enjoy classical music, especially violinist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg.

What is your dream vacation? Italy. I’ve never been. It’s on my dream vacation list. I love Leonardo Da Vinci and all the artists of the Renaissance period. Going to museums is a passion and I hope to visit Italy’s museums. Plus, of course, the food and wine. Mama Mia!

What are you binging on Netflix right now? Ha! I am a mega-binger. If I love the first episode, I’ll binge the entire series, in a matter of days, usually within a week. I don’t remember if it was Outlander or Downton Abbey that I binged on last. But I’m a repeat binger, and after some time, I’ll go back and re-binge (Game of Thrones). I always manage to catch something I overlooked the first time. Not sure if it’s because I fell asleep, or did a fridge run.
