EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
Meet Kimber Spitsberg, a paralegal in the Legal Department. She has worked for the City of Tampa for 17 years and enjoys that her position involves interacting with staff from every department within the City.

What do you like to do in your free time? I enjoy live theater, cooking, connecting with family and friends, and most of all planning activities and experiences that bring joy to and improve the quality of life for a parent.

Where’s your favorite restaurant in Tampa? A Taste of Boston at Ballast Point Park. The park has some nice sitting areas to enjoy views of the Tampa Skyline and the yummy lobster rolls served at A Taste of Boston. I do miss their conch fritters. Also, the Park’s boat ramp and dock can sometimes be seriously entertaining.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen on the job? This wasn’t crazy at all. It was amazing! In 2008 the City Attorney’s office defended the City of Tampa in a civil suit wherein a Tampa Bay family sued the City for payment on a 147-year-old Civil War debt (a $299.58 promissory note). The family was seeking to collect $299.58 + 22.6 million in interest for military supplies purchased on loan in 1861. The research was most interesting. In the end, the City prevailed, this Tampa Bay family reimbursed all costs incurred by the City for defending the suit, and counsel for the family walked into our office to hand-deliver the original of the 147-year-old promissory note. The City donated that Promissory note to the Tampa History Center.

What is your dream vacation? South Africa is a destination that I would like to visit and experience a safari, tour its vineyards, sip its wine, and see its waterfalls. It is on my bucket list.

What reality show would you want to be on? No! Not me – not ever! Admittedly a guilty pleasure is watching Naked & Afraid. I am in awe of the participants’ survival skills. However, I would never consider taking part. Fear would immediately cause me to tap out (lions, tigers, and SNAKES).
