The City of Tampa Black History Committee, Inc. welcomed hundreds of attendees to the 37th Annual Black History Month Celebration, hosted at Tampa Theatre. The celebration featured live performances and keynote speaker Dr. Angela Hill, Professor and Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs at the USF Health Taneja College of Pharmacy. Under the theme, “Trailblazers: Leading Change”, dreamers, innovators, and brave achievers throughout the Tampa Bay area will be recognized for breaking down barriers within their respective professions, while empowering others.
Hosted at Tampa Theatre, the 37th Annual Black History Month Celebration featured award presentations, live performances, and a keynote address by Dr. Angela Hill, Professor and Associate Dean of Clinical Affairs at the USF Health Taneja College of Pharmacy. Under the theme “Trailblazers: Leading Change,” local dreamers, innovators, and brave achievers were recognized for breaking down barriers while empowering others.

Land Development Code Assessment Meeting

The City of Tampa is currently updating its Land Development Code, which is the set of regulations that govern how land can be used and developed in the city. It helps guide decisions on housing, transportation, trees, zoning, sustainability, historic preservation, and more. As part of the update process, the first installment of the Land Development Code Assessment has been released for public review. Review the document at tampa.gov/TampaForward (https://www.tampa.gov/TampaForward) and attend the Public Forum Meeting on March 3 at 7 pm, hosted at the City Center at Hanna Avenue (2555 E Hanna Avenue).

28th Annual Women’s History Month Celebration

Join Mayor Jane Castor, Tampa City Council, the City of Tampa Women’s History Month Committee, and city staff on March 4 for the 28th Annual Women's History Month Celebration (https://www.tampa.gov/womens-history-month-celebration) , which will include a presentation of the Josephine Howard Stafford Memorial Award to Shirley Foxx-Knowles, City Clerk. WFLA’s Deanne King will serve as the Mistress of Ceremonies.

Mayor’s Food Truck Fiesta

Featuring tasty treats from a variety of local vendors, the Mayor’s Food Truck Fiesta (https://www.tampasdowntown.com/events/mayors-food-truck-fiesta-24-243-847-650-862-945-373/?occurrence=2025-03-05) returns to Lykes Gaslight Park on March 5 from 11 am – 2 pm. Participating Food Trucks: Just Smokin BBQ, Rollin Bites, Craving Donuts, and Sun’s Just Egg Rolls.

Rock the Park

Downtown’s Bike to Work Ride & Rally

Celebrate Florida Bike Month in Tampa’s Downtown on March 13 for Downtown’s Bike to Work Ride & Rally! There are seven starting locations to choose from, each led by experienced cyclists. Mark your calendar for the 2025 Senior Day in the Park (https://www.tampa.gov/events/senior-day-park/162741) ! There will be a 1-mile walk, games, entertainment, vendors, giveaways, raffles, free food, and free T-shirts (while supplies last). Join the fun on March 14 from 9:30 am - 1 pm at MacFarlane Park (1801 N Lincoln Ave).

River O’ Green Festival & St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Get ready to paddy! The 2025 River O’ Green Festival (https://www.tampasdowntown.com/events/tampas-downtown-river-o-green-presented-by-grow-financial/?occurrence=2025-03-15) will be hosted in Curtis Hixon Park on March 15 from 11 am – 6 pm, featuring live performances (music, poetry, and traditional Irish step dancing), Irish-themed bites and drinks, cabbage toss, Lucky Charms eating contest, Irish hurling and more. The annual coloring of the Hillsborough River with an appearance from Mayor Jane Castor starts at 11 am. The 2025 Rough Riders’ St. Patrick’s Day Parade (https://www.tamparoughriders.org/stpats) will also be hosted on March 15 in Downtown Tampa at 3 pm.

Tampa Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Festival

On March 22 from 12 pm – 7 pm, celebrate and honorAsian Pacific Islander cultures (https://www.tampa.gov/asianpacificfestival) with the Mayor’s Asian Pacific Islander Advisory Council in Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. The festival showcases beautiful cultural performances from various Asian countries and islands of the Pacific, delicious food, authentic API merchandise and informational exhibits.

Tampa Bay History Center

The Tampa Bay History Center (https://tampabayhistorycenter.org/) was recently named one of the best history museums in the country by the USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards. On March 1, the center will open the “Invisible Immigrants: Spaniards in the U.S. (1868 – 1945)” exhibit for its U.S. debut, showcasing an underexplored chapter in the history of Spanish emigration to America.

Job of the Week

The Logistics and Asset Management Department is hiring a Fleet Mechanic III (https://www.jobapscloud.com/Tampa/sup/bulpreview.asp?b=&R1=250218&R2=003723&R3=001) to perform complex maintenance and/or specialized repairs to diverse vehicles and equipment - within both a repair shop or in the field. EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
Meet Dana Reid, Office Support Specialist III in Tampa Fire Rescue. She has worked for the City of Tampa for 32 years and she enjoys working with her colleagues each day, as she sees much for the Tampa Fire Rescue staff each week. Her role in the TFR Supply Division (Supply) works with all employees from their date of hire to retirement. Supply is responsible for having almost all items needed for each station and many of the reserve vehicles are housed there.

What do you like to do in your free time? Shopping, reading, relaxing.

What’s your favorite restaurant in Tampa? Zeko’s. The food is always fresh and the workers are always nice.

What’s your favorite movie? Miracle on 34th street starring Maureen O’Hara. This is a family movie I love to watch often.

What's your favorite meal to cook? Collard greens, yellow rice, muffins, baked or fried chicken, and sweet potato pie.

What are you reading right now? A short story by my granddaughter, Helen Horace, titled Adventures in AI Land: the Curious Robot.

Using highly specialized equipment, we have a team grinding down uneven sidewalk panels across the city. This helps improve the overall safety and walkability of Tampa, making it an even more appealing place to enjoy on foot.
