In addition to City staff, FEMA representatives will be on-site to provide home improvements tips, guidance on how to reduce damages caused by future storms, and info on upcoming financial assistance programs to help with private residential mitigation projects. There are four meetings scheduled throughout the city, hosted from 6 pm -7 pm:
* January 27: DeSoto Elementary School (2618 Corrine St)
* January 29: Babe Zaharias Clubhouse (11412 N Forest Hills Dr)

Black Love Series
To kickoff Black History Month, the Black Love Classic Movie Series returns in 2025 with a new genre: Blerds. Shorthand for “black nerds,” blerd culture celebrates those heroes – both “super” and everyday – who stir the imagination and spark creativity. This year’s Black Love classics series, presented by Tampa Electric (TECO) in collaboration with the City of Tampa Community Engagement & Partnerships Department, reflects Tampa Theatre’s commitment to representation and the magic of the movies with “Rise of the Blerds” every Sunday in February. Tickets may be purchased at the box office and online at tampatheatre.org (https://tampatheatre.org/movie-categories/black-love/) .
* February 2: Black Panther. Guests are invited to dress as their favorite superheroes for photo ops and an on-stage costume parade hosted by Tampa-based nerd-core rapper Swell Rell before the film. And while the film celebrates fictional superheros, guests are invited to come meet the REAL superheroes in our community with a family-friendly “Touch A Truck” event on Franklin Street from 2-3 p.m. featuring first responders, TECO line trucks, and others who aided the clean-up efforts after the October hurricanes.
* February 9: Fast Color. Guests are invited to come early to meet some of Tampa’s Blerd community and join in a conversation about centuries-old stereotypes, pop culture, and claiming their space, starting at 2pm in the lobby.
* February 16: Nope. Guests are encouraged to stay after the film for a deep-dive discussion into Peele’s storytelling and directorial choices.
* February 23: Hidden Figures. Guests are encouraged to stay after the film for a panel discussion featuring local Black women who are making waves in STEM-based careers.

What is your favorite restaurant in Tampa? With temperature ranging from 30’s to 50’s lately, any restaurant serving a Hot Pot sounds wonderful to me.
Where is your favorite place in Tampa? I like Lettuce Lake Park. The boardwalk is a great place for a nice walk and I see wildlife sometimes.
What are you reading right now? I’m re-reading a Chinese book; it’s title could be loosely translated to “Descendants of the River”.
What is your dream vacation? I love places like Alaska or Glacier National Park. To somebody who lives in south Florida, those places are almost like a different world.
What is your favorite movie? I like the new Dune movies. The visuals are stunning. I’m looking forward to the next one.
