EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

Meet Brian Smith, the Water Engineering Team Leader in the Water Department. He has worked for the City of Tampa for 12 years and enjoys being able to mentor and teach his crew out in the field. Working together, they’re able to make a difference in our Tampa residents’ lives by making sure they get the water they need.

What’s something unique about your job that others wouldn’t know? Something unique about my job is that I get to be a leader out in the field. I’m never in the office. I work side-by-side with my team and pass along my know-how. Every day is different, with the team working on a variety of projects like water main installs, service installs, and road building.

What do you like to do in your free time? I’m a big gym rat. Right now, my routine is three on, one off. I work out three days in a row before I get a day off, so I’m basically at the gym six days a week. I also compete in bodybuilding competitions.

What is your favorite restaurant in Tampa? My favorite restaurant in Tampa is Eddie V’s. I really like the steak, and you can’t go wrong with any of their ahi tuna tar tar.

What is your dream vacation? My dream vacation would be to go out and spend some time in the mountains, like taking a vacation to the Rockies. In the mountains, you can do a lot of activities like skiing, white water rafting, and hiking. Sometimes you just need to get away from the city life and enjoy the great outdoors.
