The City Center at Hanna Avenue is now open! It will house over 500 City of Tampa employees across more than six departments. Community members will enjoy gathering together to use spaces like meeting rooms, studios, and more.

Pops in the Park

Pack a blanket and picnic for a free performance by the Florida Orchestra (https://floridaorchestra.org/event/2324-free-pops-in-the-park-river/) under the stars on November 5 at 6:30 pm at River Tower Park. The event will feature movie music, Broadway hits, and classical favorites.

Tampa Soulwalk Community Cookbook

The deadline to submit recipes in the Tampa Soulwalk Community Cookbook (https://www.tampa.gov/soulwalk) is December 1. We welcome the public’s recipes, snippets of memories, profiles of people and businesses, and other notes about the preparation and consumption of food.

Job of the Week

The Wastewater Department is hiring a Lead Utility Locator Technician (https://www.jobapscloud.com/Tampa/sup/bulpreview.asp?b=&R1=231023&R2=362750&R3=001) to perform technical lead work involving construction compliance inspections. Applicants should have graduated from an accredited high school and have one (1) year of experience in construction inspection, including 6 (six) months lead or supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

Meet Robert Parris, an Emergency Planner in Tampa Fire Rescue. He has worked for the City for three years and enjoys helping assist people in need either by providing a service or guiding them to a resource that will be able to assist them with their problems.

What do you like to do in your free time? Spend time with family, relax, and watching sports (football, boxing, MMA).

What reality show would you want to be on? Goldrush. That is a tough job and you have to put a lot into just to find a little bit of gold but in the end it’s all worth it just like you do in life; hard work usually pays off.

What is your favorite meal to cook and why? Toss up between BBQ grilling and a Thanksgiving meal. You’ve got to have patience and take your time but when you sprinkle in a little love, you end up with a unforgettable meal.

What's one of the craziest days you’ve had on the job? Coordinating and assisting with the re-establishment of our two COVID-19 testing sites with extremely short notice at the height of the 2nd wave of the pandemic. The community was in dire need and I was trusted to lead the coordination efforts.

Yard Waste Changes

Change may be scary, but wasting resources is scarier. As of February 1, 2024, plastic bags of any kind will not be accepted for yard waste collection. This will allow all yard waste to be composted. Learn more at tampa.gov/yardwaste.
