EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
Meet Jennifer Dietz, an Archives and Records Manager in the City Clerk’s Office. She has worked for the City for 11 years. Prior to working with us, she was a Senior Librarian at the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library, cataloging records in their partnership library at the Tampa Bay History Center. She loves that her position requires working with historical collections.

Congratulations to Jennifer and her team on another incredibly successful Archives Awareness Week last week. The agenda was full of engaging events for residents to celebrate Tampa’s history and Tampa’s 136th birthday.

What’s something unique about your job that others wouldn’t know? Each municipality in the State of Florida has a Records Management Liaison Officer (RMLO) who provides annual reports on its records, and I am the RMLO for the City of Tampa. People also may not realize that our archive became the first municipal archive in the state of Florida, established in 1987.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen on the job? Getting boxes of artifacts delivered to me for processing is always exciting because I never know what I will find. The craziest thing I’ve archived is a metal roller skate that was found during the construction of Perry Harvey, Sr. Park.

What do you like to do in your free time? I like relaxing at home, as well as traveling to see new places. I also like to go to film festivals, especially the Sundance Film Festival. I used to work at Sundance before I moved to Florida.

Where’s your favorite place, restaurant, or shop in Tampa? My favorite place is Tampa Theatre. My favorite restaurant is Bella’s. As for shopping, I like to get Tampa-themed gifts, and really like shopping at museum gift shops, like the ones at the Tampa Bay History Center and Henry B. Plant Museum. The store at Visit Tampa Bay is also great.

What is your favorite meal to cook and why? My husband and I both love vegan food and trying new plant-based dishes. I am not good at cooking, so I am lucky that he enjoys it and cooks for both of us. My favorite dish he makes is a spinach polenta Field Roast with balsamic vinegar.

What reality show would you want to be on? Supersize My Pool on HGTV. I love my pool, but it’s old and it would be great to redo it.
SPECIAL FEATURE
Did you know that we have awarded the construction of 171 miles of water and wastewater pipeline rehabilitation and replacement since 2019? The PIPES Project is the largest public works project in our City’s history - a $2.9 billion plan for large-scale sewer & water infrastructure improvements.
